You might have heard that the old copper phone lines we grew up with are being retired in 2027. Now, there’s a new and easy way to keep a home phone service – it’s called VoIP. In this guide, we’ll explain what VoIP is, how it works, and how Quickline Talk+ can be a great option if you’d like a landline alternative.
What is VoIP? #
VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. That simply means your phone calls travel over your internet connection instead of the old copper wires.
With VoIP:
- You use a normal home phone
- You make and receive calls just like you always have
- You don’t need anything fancy or high-tech – it feels just like using a landline
What is Quickline Talk+? #
Quickline Talk+ is our optional home phone service. It’s perfect if you still want a traditional home phone but without the old copper network.
With Quickline Talk+:
- You plug your normal home phone into your router using a small “Phone Adapter” cable that we provide
- You can make and take calls just like before
- Call quality stays high, even if other people are using the internet in your home
Quickline Talk+ is designed only for phone calls. It works only with a normal home phone. It does not support alarms, card machines, medical devices, or any other equipment.
How does it work? #
Here’s what happens:
- Your phone connects to your Quickline internet connection
- When you call someone, your voice travels through the internet
- The person you’re calling answers just like they would with any other call (even if they don’t have the internet)
