Having difficulty when trying to call out? There is a likely explanation for this!
It is important to understand our Quickline Talk+ service is a “Voice over IP” (VOIP) based product. Contrary to legacy copper telephone lines, VOIP products use the internet as a nationwide network, unlike copper systems which run on a series of local networks.
What this means:
- Copper telephony did not require an ‘Area code’ when dialling ‘in area’ numbers (numbers which shared the same ‘Area code’ as yours). However, you were required to dial an ‘Area code’ when dialling ‘out of area’ numbers (numbers which have a different ‘Area code’ to you).
- VOIP telephony requires an ‘Area code’ on all calls as if they are ‘out of area’ – If numbers are not dialled in full, then you will be met with an error code.
- For example: To dial a number, type all 11 digits into your handset. Such as 01482 247365, not just 247365.
If you are continuing to have issues dialling out, steps to consider are:
- If your phone is plugged into a white ‘Phone adapter’. Ensure the “Phone” light on the front of your Router is lit green (flashing green is fine!).
- If your phone is plugged into a Black terminal unit. On it, ensure the first (Power), second (Network) and third (authentication) lights are all lit solid green.
- If you have a spare handset, or the capacity to test yours on another phone line – please, feel free to do so (this may allow us to narrow down whether the issue lies with the handset).
