Our Social Value team recently delivered a Wistow Primary School Digital Skills session for primary school students as part of Quickline’s Engaging Educate programme. The digital skills workshop was delivered to several year 4, 5 and 6 children. All 6 modules was covered in two half-day sessions. The modules consisted of topics such as: how to keep safe online, how to spot AI deep fakes and jobs within STEM.
In total, 60 pupils throughout the day took part in the Wistow Primary School Digital Skills session. Engaged by 2 social value volunteers from Quickline – ensuring QFutures principles were demonstrated throughout the day:
- Educate people – creating new skills, inspiring talent, getting people work ready
- Enrich livelihoods – accelerating and renewing rural livelihoods
- Enhance environments – protecting our rural environments
Connor Moore, Social Value Executive, was a volunteer on the day and said: “Wistow was our first time presenting the digital skills programme. Both Rachel and I thoroughly enjoyed our time there and thought the students were engaging and driven to learn about all things digital”.
The Quickline Digital Skills Approach
Upon arriving at Wistow Primary School the Social Value Executives; Connor and Rachel introduced themselves to the teachers and the class. Once set up, the team began covering topics on digital skills. During the sessions various activities took place which gave the children a more hands on approach to their learning.
The Impact from the Wistow Primary School digital skills session
The impact of the digital skills sessions is to create a more in-depth insight into how children currently use the internet and their devices. By doing so we get to highlight the issues with how they use it and how it can be more safely and effectively. It also gives the children a first look at possible jobs within the STEM industry they may have never heard of before.
