Representing Quickline, Julie and Tamara played a vital role at Girl Tech digital careers day. From taking part in the Tech Carousel (talking about the careers that Quickline can offer), to taking part in the Gadget Show, to assisting one of the attending schools, in an innovation task. The day was full of energy from both the students and the volunteers that took part in the day.
Ending the day with a careers panel, five inspirational women, one of which being Julie, were asked to speak about their journey’s getting into the world of technology, influencing the audience sat listening intently.
The morning
First up, was the Tech Carousel. Over the course of three hours, Julie and Tamara liaised with over a hundred students about the opportunities that Quickline had to offer.
There was a mix reaction of both shock and amazement, when the girls learnt that we currently only have two female engineers within the company, and Quickline are keen to change that.
The Afternoon
Next, was the Gadget show. We were able to show how fibre is connected to our customer’s homes using a detailed presentation from Tamara and a splicing kit.
After lunch, was an innovation sprint. In which, students of Ruth Gorse Academy, we asked by Julie and Tamara to create an app that would help us track our social impact. The team took to this activity with passion and enthusiasm.
A teacher from Ruth Gorse Academy, said: “Excellent range of activities and speakers, well organised and aimed at the right level for the students.”
