Quickline boosts STEM skills and backs schools in South Yorkshire Day of Impact

Quickline has been out on the road with its community engagement programme delivering digital skills and school workshops across South Yorkshire.

Quickline boosts STEM skills as a workshop held at Mexborough Youth Hub (Mexborough Business Centre), provided a hands-on session to introduce young people to careers in science, technology, engineering and maths and how those pathways might look like in telecoms.

Twelve young people aged 18 to 22 attended, where fibre broadband installation engineer Katie Hook shared her day-to-day experience working on the ground to connect rural communities, giving attendees a practical view of roles in engineering, telecoms and technology.

Elisabeth Kamaris, Social Values Executive at Quickline, said: “Katie absolutely smashed it. Having a real engineer in the room, someone who’s out there every day helping connect communities, made a huge difference.

“The young people were really engaged, asking brilliant questions and showing genuine enthusiasm for the industry.”

The focus then shifted from skills to school support with a visit to Mossbrook Primary School in Sheffield – a special educational needs school.

To bolster classroom resources, Quickline donated Cones books and pencils through Friends of Mossbrook, the charitable group that supports fundraising and resourcing at the school.

The donation will help ensure pupils have the everyday tools they need to learn and thrive.

Elisabeth added: “Visiting Mossbrook was a lovely way to round off the day. The staff there are incredible, and it’s clear how much the school means to its community.

“Being able to support them with practical resources through Friends of Mossbrook felt really meaningful. Days like this remind me why our social value work matters.”
