I live half of the week in central London, and the other half of the week in Tetney, a beautiful village near the Lincolnshire coast. I grew up in Tetney and know everybody there. I love being able to walk the dog and stop for chats or tea; a 20-minute walk can talk all morning if you want it to! My dad is also buried in the church there, so I will always have a strong emotional connection to my village.
What do you use the Internet for?
I direct an online business which provides singing lessons to thousands of students around the world with me and my team of associates who are based in the UK, Europe and the US. Personally, I coach online celebrities and high-profile performers on Broadway, the West End, film and TV, and major pop artists.
How important to you is a fast and reliable home broadband connection?
Absolutely crucial. My professional reputation depends on it! I also work with music studios around the world remotely, and when we’re working on sessions, there is a huge amount of data transfer that needs to be as close to real-time as possible.
How would you describe your previous broadband service?
Our previous provider started okay but seemed to get slower and slower. Their client base was so large that trying to get help from an office was really difficult.
What were the most frustrating things about your previous broadband experience?
Being cut off the internet in the middle of a lesson. I was also frustrated that the houses across the road had fibre to the premises and we only had copper wires, which were incredibly slow. I used to find myself getting stressed about the internet because of how much I’ve come to rely on it for income and reputation.
Why did you choose Quickline?
I chose Quickline as the only provider that offered an alternative to the Openreach network that massively limited the speeds available to our house. I also like that they were based in Hull and hoped that we’d get a local, friendly service.
Tell us about the service you received from Quickline.
We had some initial problems with Quickline and a mistake in the installation meant that for a while our speeds were a little unstable. However, they since sent two amazing engineers to fix it all and I couldn’t fault them. They were not rushed, just wanted to do a complete and thorough job, and didn’t leave until every possible internet-based scenario had been tested in the house.
How has Quickline changed your broadband experience?
I somehow feel better connected to the rest of the world and more properly immersed in my working community who are based all over the world. My set up looks and feels more professional and people have commented on the clarity of my calls during meetings and lessons. I like that I don’t have to “notice” the internet anymore. If I upload an enormous video file to Dropbox, what used to take the full day is now done in the time it takes to make a cup of tea.
Would you recommend Quickline to family and friends?
Absolutely. I’m the only one with heavy internet usage in my house, but I can imagine that a family with many devices and gamers etc will really appreciate the vastly improved speeds.
