Quickline brings full fibre broadband to homes and businesses in villages like Streethouse and New Sharlston, near Wakefield, and Emley and Upper Cumberworth, near Huddersfield, all having access to gigabit-capable broadband.
So far around 600 premises in these areas can now get connected through Project Gigabit funding and another 1,100 premises have gained access through Quickline’s commercial build.
Further connectivity across these rural communities is planned in the coming weeks and months.
The rollout is delivering high-speed broadband to communities that were previously underserved. The communities are part of the government’s Project Gigabit with these locations included in the contract covering West Yorkshire and the York Area, awarded to Quickline in February this year.
Project Gigabit is a government-funded programme to enable hard-to-reach communities to access lightning-fast gigabit-capable broadband. It targets homes and businesses that are not included in broadband suppliers’ commercial plans, reaching parts of the UK that might otherwise miss out on upgrades to next-generation speeds.
More than 28,000 hard-to-reach rural homes and businesses in the West Yorkshire and York area will ultimately benefit from the government’s UK-wide programme. Quickline is also investing further to extend its full fibre network to an additional 58,000 premises across the region.
