Growing more than moustaches: Quickline takes on Movember

This November, the Quickline team is swapping clean-shaven chins for some questionable facial hair - all in the name of men's health.

Growing more than moustaches Quickline takes on Movember

From Monday 2nd November, colleagues across the business are signing up to Movember. We’ll be growing moustaches, clocking up steps and, most importantly, talking more openly about the health issues that affect the men in our lives.

Why we’re getting involved with Movember

Movember is a global charity dedicated to men’s health. It focuses on three areas: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention.

The numbers are hard to ignore. According to Movember, 1 in 6 men in the UK will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men. And around the world, one man dies by suicide every minute.

Behind every one of those figures is a dad, a partner, a mate or a colleague. We’re a business built on keeping people connected, so it feels right to help men stay connected to their health and the people around them.

Since 2003, Movember’s supporters have raised more than £815 million and funded over 1,320 men’s health projects. We’d love to add our bit to that.

The moustache competition

The classic Movember challenge: start the month clean-shaven and see what you can grow in 30 days. At the end of the month, the best efforts will win bronze, silver and gold trophies.

The steps challenge

Not everyone can (or wants to) grow a moustache, so we’re also getting moving.

Colleagues are logging their steps all month, including lunchtime walks, weekend hikes, park runs, the lot. Getting outside and moving is good for body and mind, and it’s a great excuse to catch up with a colleague on the way round.

We’ll share step counts and progress in weekly updates across the team, and the top walkers will take home their own bronze, silver and gold trophies.

Looking out for each other

Movember isn’t just about fundraising. It’s about making it easier to talk.

Throughout the month, we’re shining a light on the support that’s already there for our team. That includes our trained Mental Health First Aiders – colleagues who are ready to listen and help point people to the right support. Each week, one of them will share a short video internally about who they are, what they do and why it matters to them.

If there’s one thing we’d love you to take away, it’s this: check in on your mates. A simple “how are you really doing?” can go a long way.

How you can support us

Every colleague taking part has their own Movember fundraising page, all linked to one Quickline team. You can donate to the team as a whole, or back a particular grower or walker.

All donations are made online through Movember, and are paid directly to the charity.

Thank you for supporting the Quickline team. If this post has reminded you to book that check-up or call a mate, even better.
