A group of young people from West Yorkshire were the latest to benefit from the delivery of a digital skills workshop aimed to help the next generation stay safe, savvy and confident online.

The session was hosted by Afrikindness – a Leeds-based charity focused on supporting families and raising awareness about neurodiversity, particularly within ethnic minority communities.

Led by Connor Moore, Quickline’s Social Values lead for West Yorkshire, the event brought together students aged 10 to 17 for an interactive day of learning covering some of the most important digital skills young people need today.

Afrikindness receives support through Quickline’s partnership with Leeds Community Foundation, which channels funding and expertise to organisations tackling inequality and digital exclusion across the region.

The workshop covered four key areas: keeping safe online, sharing content and social media responsibility, spotting fake news, and future careers in the digital and tech sector.

The sessions were designed to provide the tools to navigate the internet confidently and responsibly as well as to showcase the opportunities a career in tech can offer.

What the digital skills workshop meant

Bunmi Owolabi, CEO at Afrikindness said: “It was a brilliant session. The young people thoroughly enjoyed it, and it was clear how much they learned.”

Quickline’s Connor Moore, said: “It’s always great to spend time with young people who are so eager to learn. The conversations we had showed real curiosity, and it was great to see them engaging with topics that genuinely make a difference to how they use the internet and think about going into a STEM career.

“At Quickline, our commitment goes beyond delivering fast, reliable broadband to communities. Through partnerships like the one we have with Leeds Community Foundation, we’re helping ensure that being connected means people have the skills and confidence to make the most of the digital world.”
