Speak Carbon teams up with Quickline to teach communities about climate

We are excited to announce the launch of a two-year project working with the team at Speak Carbon to improve the awareness of the climate crisis and support communities to take meaningful action.

Throughout 2026 and 2027, Quickline will continue to build our full fibre network across North Yorkshire, connecting dozens of rural communities to fast and reliable broadband.

As part of this project, we’ve partnered with Speak Carbon to deliver a programme of climate learning sessions across the region.

The collaboration forms a core part of Quickline’s social value commitment under Project Gigabit, the government-funded programme delivering gigabit-capable broadband to hard-to-reach premises across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

Drawing on their expertise in delivering both Climate Fresk and Carbon Literacy, Speak Carbon will be running free-to-attend, community-based sessions in-person in community hubs and villages halls throughout 2026 and 2027.

Climate Fresk is an interactive card game, based on the latest climate science. This hand-on workshop empowers participants to build their own climate systems, leading to a deeper understanding of what is causing the climate crisis. With a strong focus on wellbeing and action, the sessions enable people to discuss what climate change means to them, and how best they can reduce emissions and protect their communities.

For those looking for more in-depth space to action-plan, and a globally recognised qualification, a further half day session on Carbon Literacy will also be available online following the Climate Fresk sessions. During these sessions, experienced Carbon Literacy trainers from Speak Carbon will support participants to build two action plans to reduce emissions at home or in their communities.

What Quickline and Speak Carbon had to say

Speak Carbon’s Pete Watkins, added: “We’re thrilled to be working with Quickline on a project that puts people and community at the heart of climate action. Rural communities across North Yorkshire have a huge amount of knowledge, resilience and creativity, and these sessions are designed to build on that. By combining Climate Fresk’s creative but science-led approach with the action plan focus of Carbon Literacy; we’re creating spaces where people can learn, reflect and take meaningful action together. It’s a privilege to support communities where I live, shaping a low-carbon future that works for everyone.”

Quickline’s Social Values and Events Manager Sarah Lilleyman-Hall, added: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Speak Carbon on this project to bring climate learning to rural communities across North Yorkshire. At Quickline, we’re not only focused on connecting people digitally, we also want to help build stronger, more sustainable communities. These sessions will give local people the chance to learn, share ideas and take practical steps to protect the environment around them.”
