But thanks to Quickline’s full fibre broadband, he’s now transformed life with full fibre – enjoying seamless gaming, streaming, and remote working. All with speeds that match the demands of modern life.
Tell us about your community and what you love about it.
I live in a small seaside town in North Yorkshire. It’s quiet in the winter, busy in the summer, and has a close-knit community. We’re usually last in line for anything remotely technology-related, though! As much as I’ve loved living here for a large portion of my life, I do miss certain things from bigger towns. Like Fibre to the Premises, which I’ve been promised by various providers for years, but it’s never actually been delivered.
What do you use the Internet for?
Gaming, streaming, working, and very large downloads. As a big gamer, it’s frustrating how games these days are regularly hundreds of gigabytes per download. Having regular fibre honestly sucked. Having to sit there and wait while 150GB downloaded every time I wanted to install a newer game was painful.
I also do a lot of downloading and uploading for work, often sending large files to the cloud and retrieving them again. So having a faster upload and download speed isn’t just convenient – it really boosts productivity.
How important to you is a fast and reliable home broadband connection?
The faster, the better. A fibre-to-the-premises line has always been something I considered “nice to have” rather than essential… at least until recently. These days, everything is getting bigger in terms of file size. Even basic images from an iPhone can be 40 megabytes each, and everyone seems to be taking photos and videos in 4K or even 8K – just because they can!
As I mentioned earlier, having faster speeds is becoming important just to interact properly with the modern internet. That said, a stable connection is, of course, the most important thing. You could have the fastest internet in the world, but if it’s dropping out every hour, it’s nearly useless.
How would you describe your previous broadband service?
Over the years, I have been with AOL, Supanet, BT, Sky, PlusNet, and Quickline. Starting with a dial-up connection during the AOL days. AOL and the early internet experience were horrendous to set up and maintain, but thankfully, we’ve come a long way since then. That said, some of the others weren’t much better.
Supanet was terrible, and their customer service was practically non-existent. I was happy to finally transfer over to BT and eventually get Fibre Broadband, which was somewhat stable. However, I still had my issues with them; particularly with their customer service, which was never great.
Sky provided a router that was not fit for purpose. The signal was abysmal, regardless of its location in the home or the channels it was broadcasting on. They refused to believe me and tried to charge me multiple times for pointless engineer callouts that I told them I didn’t need – knowing full well that the router was the root of the poor performance. To make things worse, their setup didn’t allow me to swap the router out for a third-party one. The final straw came when they offered to send me their “new and improved” router to fix the issue but wanted to charge me £200 for it because I supposedly didn’t “need” it. It was awful.
I then moved over to PlusNet and honestly, I cannot fault them. They were perfect in every way – their customer service was quick, efficient, and they genuinely cared and listened. The only reason I left PlusNet was because they kept promising that Fibre to the Premises was “coming soon,” which ended up dragging on for years. I still see no sign of it in my area, which led me to explore Quickline as a solution.
Why did you choose Quickline?
The prices were pretty good, and their promises were almost too good to believe. I decided to check things out on live chat after seeing the leaflets that were dropped through my door, and after hearing about it from a friend who was in the process of getting connected.
Tell us about the service you received from Quickline.
The lady on live chat was super helpful, though I was still a bit sceptical about how good the deal really was. She gave me a call and completely put my mind at ease, clearly explaining how everything would work. We ended up signing up there and then. It was painless, quick, and honestly one of the best sign-up experiences I’ve ever had.
On the day of the install, the team texted me beforehand and then turned up exactly when they said they would. They’d already started working on the outside before I even realized, and had most of it fitted in no time – their efficiency was amazing. Once inside, they got everything sorted within about 10 minutes, and I was fully connected in around 45 to 60 minutes total. Absolutely brilliant.
How has Quickline changed your broadband experience?
It’s incredible! I can’t even begin to explain how fun it is having 500 down and up! I can download and stream anything I want, and we can use as many devices as we like without ever having to worry about bandwidth.
I’ve already recommended the service to all my friends and family, and I’ll continue shouting Quickline’s praises from the rooftops!
