From Struggling to Thriving: How Quickline Transformed Remote Work and Gaming for Dale Storrie

We recently met with our customer Dale Storrie who lives with his partner and their teenage son in the village of Hibaldstow, in North Lincolnshire.

How Quickline Transformed Remote Work and Gaming for Dale Storrie

Dale works from home on a permanent basis and struggled with poor connectivity that hampered his ability to complete vital tasks. But now Quickline has transformed remote work and Dale no longer suffers from connectivity troubles, even when his son is gaming!

How long have you been a Quickline customer?

I’ve actually been with Quickline for about 4 or 5 years. I was originally on the dish first getting a wireless connection and then they brought fibre to the premise into the village and so I went straight onto that.

Tell us a bit about Hibaldstow.

It’s quite a quiet village, there’s not a right lot going on which is not a bad thing. It’s quite a sleepy village and in that sense it is not always good for technology. We had really bad phone lines here for years and then KCOM turned up and shortly after that Quickline turned up and so we were quite chuffed with that.

What do you use the internet for?

Mainly for working from home. That’s the main thing because I had a really bad internet before and whenever I was doing remote work from home, it was so slow that the customer would tell me that things had moved on the screen before I had actually seen it and so I realised then that I had to get better internet and that’s when I got in touch with Quickline. But obviously it also comes in very handy for my son’s gaming and all his downloads.

The faster internet allows him to play his games and download them without interrupting my work so that makes a great lot of difference. We’ve got loads of stuff going off in the house; we have a full server rack upstairs that’s always buzzing away and we never have problems with the bandwidth anymore.

Why is a fast and reliable, stable connection important to you?

Some of the data that I send to work and back is quite large in size and I was finding that in the past when I was sending it to work the whole house would die because there was no broadband left for anybody else. But now there’s plenty of speed and everyone can do what they want and there’s probably bags left over as well. It’s very important to me that the connection is fast and that it can cope with everything we are using it for.

Why did you choose Quickline?

Before it was the old-twisted copper cables to the house and it was just rubbish. The signals would always drop out, the speed was terrible. The cable comes from Brigg to here and then travel back and so the latency was terrible. I signed up with Quickline rather than anyone else because I was on the dish, so I was getting 100Mbps already and was very happy with the service I was getting from Quickline. I’ve found Quickline to be a good company. You get really good technical support, when you phone up. It’s quick to get some help.

Can you tell us about the service you have received once you decided to upgrade?

It was really easy. Quickline came round and installed the fibre and moved me off the dish and onto the fibre straight away. Before the engineer left I was on already 900Mbps and it was brilliant. Really easy, seamless. I couldn’t complain. The engineers who came to put in the fibre were great. They asked where I wanted it, they put it exactly where I said and they just did everything to make us happy.

What was your internet like before Quickline?

It was terrible. That was just ADSL with BT. Wireless internet with the dish from Quickline was much better and then when I upgraded to the fibre for 900Mbps it was phenomenal. And it was the same price as I was paying for 100Mb on the dish so it was a no brainer.

So how would you describe your broadband service now compared to your original copper wiring?

It’s phenomenal. I couldn’t really work from home before. I would get halfway through the day and if the internet dropped out I would have to nip into Scunthorpe and go to the site. Whereas now I can work from home all the time, it’s never a problem. Obviously as time has gone on, as work becomes more video calls and conference calls, if you’re on a bad connection it was ridiculously hard to keep connected whereas now, I can have a full conference and work in the background.

Would you recommend Quickline to others?

Yes, I would recommend it to everyone. In fact, I already have done to all my friends. You don’t have you be stuck in the dark ages anymore. We are definitely not complaining. It’s brilliant.
