Steel City Community Consultancy in Rotherham is expanding its vital work with underserved groups thanks to funding from Quickline’s QFutures Community Fund. The new three-year project, launched in May 2025, will provide tailored support for women, girls, BAME communities and older people in some of the town’s most deprived areas.
The organisation’s approach goes beyond providing services. By building relationships, fostering connections and creating safe spaces, Steel City helps people regain confidence, develop new skills and find their voice. This human-centred model is proving especially important at a time when many are struggling with isolation, financial pressures and community tensions.
Through our work in South Yorkshire as part of the Government’s Project Gigabit programme, Quickline is committed to delivering meaningful social value alongside broadband rollout. That includes supporting community-led initiatives that help people build confidence, develop employability skills and access new opportunities. The QFutures fund is one way we’re delivering on that commitment.
Steel City Community Consultancy programme will address both practical and personal challenges. Drop-in sessions will support people with housing, debt, childcare and health concerns, working closely with partners such as Citizens Advice Bureau, Healthwatch and local housing authorities to provide joined-up solutions.
Confidence-building workshops, IT training, CV writing and interview preparation will give participants the tools they need to take their next steps, while a mentorship programme will offer personalised guidance and encouragement.
Collaboration sits at the heart of Steel City’s success. Partnerships with groups such as Voluntary Action Rotherham’s Volunteer Centre and the Rotherham Ethnic Minority Alliance help extend the reach and impact of the work, creating networks of opportunity and long-term support.
Elisabeth Kamaris, Quickline’s Social Values Executive, said: “It’s fantastic to be supporting Steel City Community Consultancy through our QFutures Community Grant. The work they do to bring women, girls, older people and marginalised communities together is so important in helping people feel connected, valued and confident. We’re really proud to play a part in helping them continue to make such a positive difference in Rotherham.”
