The collaboration between the Yorkshire-based rural broadband provider, will see them working with GreenTheUK as well as the Royal Forestry Society (RFS) to plant 10,000 climate resistant trees.
The initiative forms part of Quickline’s broader commitment to environmental responsibility and will see the climate resistant trees planted in UK woodlands over the course of the next planting season – between November 2024 and March 2025.
To guarantee the right species are planted in the right places for the right reasons, GreenTheUK partners with the RFS, an educational charity with a deep understanding of woodland management and forestry.
Planting objectives can include enhancing biodiversity, sequestering carbon, improving woodland resilience to pests and diseases, restocking post storm damage, supporting the UK timber industry and preventing flooding.
According to the RFS, over 60% of the UK’s woodland is comprised of just six different types of tree – Sitka spruce, birch, oak, Scots pine, ash and sycamore. It is essential that increases to protect more wildlife; the more variety of species, the better for biodiversity.
Quickline’s partnership with GreenTheUK and RFS is helping to restore and protect UK woodlands by pledging to plant the 10,000 climate resistant trees.
Nick Young, is Head of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality at Quickline, and leads on ESG for the business. He said: “As a rural broadband provider, we’re deeply connected to the landscapes and communities we serve. Tackling climate change is a priority for us. We believe in actively contributing to ecological initiatives that help create a more sustainable future.
“Partnering with GreenTheUK and the Royal Forestry Society to support this project is one of the ways we’re committed to supporting our natural environment and addressing the urgent need for climate action. This initiative is not only important for our business but also essential for the health of our environment and the wellbeing of future generations.”
Xanthe Caldecott, Co-Founder at GreenTheUK said: “We are proud to partner with Quickline on this initiative – they are leading the way by supporting their local communities and local wildlife by planting 10,000 trees across the country. We look forward to seeing the biodiversity benefits to several UK woodlands thanks to this new and exciting partnership. Our priority with the RFS is to create better, more resilient treescapes for our environment, for people and for the economy”.
Zoe Knight, Grants & Finance Coordinator at RFS said: “We are delighted to work in partnership with GreenTheUK and their wonderful clients like Quickline Communications, who really care about taking action and putting their energy into the right places, where it will make a difference. By supporting this scheme and planting 10,000 trees they are helping to ensure more resilient woodlands, which will have more chance of surviving the increased pests, disease and climate that is to come. Our focus is on species diversity and species selection, thinking about creating and maintaining a more sustainable woodland. The more organisations like Quickline Communications that can support this work, the healthier woodlands we will have and a better chance of a sustainable future.”
