Around 230 children got creative at Carr Junior School in York last week as we brought our ‘Cones and Rural Broadband’ book reading event to the classroom.
Each year group had the opportunity to read through the book with Chris before letting their imaginations run wild and designing their very own Cones character.
The creativity on display was fantastic, with every session producing some brilliant designs. The best character from each year group won a prize, adding a competitive edge that the children loved.
It was a brilliant way to combine storytelling, creativity and a bit of friendly competition – and the enthusiasm from the pupils was infectious from start to finish.
The ‘Cones and Rural Broadband’ book reading engaged with the schools
Connor Moore, Social Values Executive at Quickline, said: “It was amazing to see how engaged the children were throughout the day. Every session brought something different, and the characters they came up with were incredibly imaginative.
“Events like this are a great way for us to connect with young people in the communities we serve. Encouraging creativity and a love of reading is something we’re really passionate about, and days like this remind us why it matters.”
With around 230 pupils taking part across the four sessions, the event was a huge hit– and a fantastic reminder of the talent and imagination in our younger generations.

At Quickline, we’re committed to supporting the communities we connect. Whether it’s delivering fast, reliable broadband to rural areas or inspiring the next generation through events like this, we believe in making a difference beyond connectivity.
