Our Social Values team delivered a workshop as part of the ‘Gateway to the Public Sector and Beyond – Opening Doors for Experienced Minds’ programme at one of Sheffield’s job centres, organised by the Department for Work and Pensions’ 50plus to champion digital skills in South Yorkshire.
The initiative brought together 11 enthusiastic participants with the skills and interest to apply for public sector roles but in need of support in identifying their transferable skills, understanding recruitment processes, and building confidence to take the next step in their careers.
Quickline’s Elisabeth Kamaris facilitated face-to-face workshops, delivering modules in digital skills and HR, the two areas participants voted as most important to them.
What digital skills in South Yorkshire means
Elisabeth, Quickline’s social value lead in South Yorkshire, said: “The Future Careers Insights workshop is part of our social value delivery to boost employability in South Yorkshire.
“The group were brilliant and inspiring to work with. It was great to see them get stuck in with the sessions, learn new skills and build confidence in their career journey. Job applications have changed a lot over the years, and this programme hosted by the DWP helped them feel more confident in the changing job market.
“I am sure with their determination and drive they will succeed, and I wish them all the best for the future! It was a real privilege to be part of such a positive programme.”

All 11 participants threw themselves into the digital skills sessions, working individually and in group discussions. The energy and enthusiasm in the room made it clear just how valuable this kind of support can be for people who might otherwise feel locked out of opportunities.
Beyond the core workshops, participants completed additional modules in their own time, tailoring their learning to their specific needs and interests. The programme didn’t just teach technical skills; it transformed confidence levels.
The feedback from participants highlighted the real impact the programme had on their lives.
One participant said: “Thank you for everything. It feels great to know you, I feel more confident now, it is a pleasure to feel included, to participate with everyone on this workshop.”
Another added: “I am grateful to be on the programme and thank you for including me.”
Ashley Jackson, 50plus District Champion for South Yorkshire, who organised the programme, said: “The feedback from the group has been a joy to read and seeing the cohort of 11 individuals grow throughout the programme which Elisabeth was part of has been inspiring.”
The next programme is set to launch in February, continuing to support experienced professionals in accessing the opportunities they deserve.
