As part of Quickline’s ongoing partnership with Tech She Can, we recently delivered an inspiring technology workshop at Doncaster School for the Deaf, giving pupils a unique opportunity to explore how broadband technology works.
The ‘Tech for Connectivity’ session, overseen by Quickline’s Social Values Executive lead in South Yorkshire, Elisabeth Kamaris, gave students a behind-the-scenes look at the world of fibre broadband. Meanwhile, Fibre Engineer Chris Clay, brought the session to life with a live fibre-splicing demonstration, showing how Quickline connects homes and communities to full fibre.
The workshop gave students the chance to see first-hand how the technology that connects their homes works, demystifying the infrastructure that powers their digital lives. By making these sessions accessible and engaging, we’re delighted to be helping to inspire the next generation of tech enthusiasts and professionals, regardless of any barriers they may face.
The visit is part of the ongoing partnership between Quickline and Tech She Can, which has seen the expansion of the charity’s educational team with two regionally based teachers dedicated to schools across West and South Yorkshire. These educators deliver inspiring tech resources and visit schools each half term, ensuring young people are reached early in their education journey with opportunities to explore careers in technology.
What Quickline and Tech She Can said about Doncaster School for the Deaf
Elisabeth Karmaris said: “It was such a special day. I loved delivering the ‘Tech for Connectivity’ session, which we created in partnership with Tech She Can. It was wonderful to see the students get hands-on with the technology and explore new ideas with so much curiosity.
“One of our key social value commitments in South Yorkshire is creating employment and training opportunities to people with barriers. Seeing how excited and engaged the students were really highlighted the impact of our work.”
Chris Clay added: “It was a pleasure to be asked to support with the visit to Doncaster school for the Deaf and it was a fantastic experience! It was great showing the pupils how broadband works.
“It was a completely different audience to what I’m used to, which made it particularly special and was great seeing the engagement and interest! Hopefully some future engineers!”
As part of our commitment to Project Gigabit, we have partnered with Tech She Can as a key element of our extensive social values programme. The programme supports initiatives across three core areas: educating people, enhancing environments and improving employability.
