Quickline recently returned to Calderdale to follow up on our work with the Community Foundation for Calderdale, an organisation that delivers life-changing support to charities and voluntary groups across the region. Community Foundation for Calderdale plays a crucial role in tackling inequalities and creating opportunities for those who need them most.
This time, we were introduced to two remarkable services benefiting from Quickline’s funding – Ask the Question and Alpha House. Both are making a real and lasting difference in their communities.
Ask the Question
Supports vulnerable children and young people aged 8-18 who have faced adverse childhood experiences. Their education and confidence are often affected, and the service provides a vital hub for tutoring and tailored support.
Jo Austin, Founder of Ask the Question, explained how Quickline’s funding is already transforming lives. She said: “Funding from Quickline via Community Foundation for Calderdale has enabled us to provide touch typing and coding lessons for 12 students. These young people have not only developed valuable digital skills but have also grown hugely in confidence. For many, this support has opened doors to opportunities they would never have considered before. We are incredibly grateful for the difference this funding has made.”
Alpha House
A specialist service supporting male offenders with complex needs. The organisation offers holistic, rehabilitative support to help individuals overcome challenges including mental health issues, substance misuse, and repeat offending, with the ultimate goal of enabling them to live independently as healthy, fulfilled members of the community.
Through counselling, skills training, rehabilitation programmes and structured activities, Alpha House has created a genuine community hub where service users can rebuild their lives.
Quickline’s funding will support Alpha House’s training and digital literacy programmes, helping service users stay connected, build essential life skills and reduce isolation.
Connor Moore, Social Values Executive at Quickline, said: “We’re incredibly proud to support an initiative that tackles rehabilitation for these men head-on and creates real opportunities for lasting change.”
With Quickline’s support, both Ask the Question and Alpha House are helping transform lives in Calderdale. Our visit reinforced our commitment to supporting grassroots organisations that know their communities best and work tirelessly to meet their needs.
We look forward to seeing the lasting impact these projects will have – from empowering vulnerable young people to helping individuals find new paths through rehabilitation.
